These pictures show the new CBD shop in Midsomer Norton which opened this weekend.
Broadies Supplements, which is the first shop of its kind in the town, opened on High Street on Saturday (September 7) and will be owned and run by local couple Esther Dodd and Robert Broad.
It sells several different cannabis-derived products, including oils, balms and tea and coffee.
CBD is extracted from the leaves and flowers of a strain of the cannabis plant but does not contain the chemical THC that gets users ‘high’.
Esther said the idea for the shop came when she began taking CBD oil to help with a sleeping condition she suffers from.
She and Robert realised that the industry was taking off and thought it would be a good time to set their own business up.
The company has put together an ‘about us’ page, which will be on the website once it goes live.
The ‘about us’ page will read: “Our company is a family run business by Robert Broad and Esther Dodd. Our main reason for our adventure is Esther was diagnosed with Endometriosis in February 2019, but previous to this has always suffered with a sleep condition.
“We provide only CBD products which are 0% THC. Our research began when trying to make day to day activities an easier process for us both.
“Our ultimate aim is to be creating our own personalised CBD products to suit everyone’s individual preference.
“We hope to be the place individuals will feel they can explore all types of products confidently and also receive high levels of customer service to enable them to find the right product for them.
“For peace of mind all CBD products we stock have been third party laboratory tested.”
“Products sold on this website are food supplements only. They are not intended to diagnose, cure, or prevent any disease. We recommend that you seek the advice of your doctor or medical professional before using any of the products advertised here.
“Whatever your story please contact us for any assistance.”
She said: “As the industry is starting to go a bit crazy, we thought we’d start so we could make our own products.
“Getting diagnosed has really pushed it into reality.
“We want people to come in and ask questions and see if it is for them.
“Also, if people buy locally in Midsomer Norton, Radstock and surrounding areas we can hand deliver. It’ll be a more personalised service.”
All of the products sold at the shop will be zero per cent THC.
Residents and customers were invited to talk about the products at the opening event, as well as trying out some of the CBD infused tea and coffee.
The products are classified by the UK Government as a food supplement and so the company is unable to advertise them for well-being benefits, although some research has found it helps people with sleeping problems, anxiety and pain management.
The shop can be found on 9 High Street.
