Just look for the green cross on Railroad Avenue.
That’s when you know you’ve reached Organically Connected, a CBD dispensary and natural wellness store that opened last month in Patchogue.
In Europe, the green cross hangs above pharmacies.
In the U.S. it’s become a symbol for medical cannabis, as well as it’s CBD oil cousin. CBD is chemical compound derived from cannabis plants that contains no mind-altering properties.
At Organically Connected you’ll find CBD in all forms, from hemp flower joints, to edibles, vapes and tinctures (drops).
They even have a line of CBD-infused coffees and kombucha teas.
“Our goal is to make people in Patchogue recognize the health and wellness benefits of CBD,” said Rivienne Menkes of Farmingville, who opened the shop with partners Rivelle Menkes of Medford and Ryan Buckingham of Farmingville.
The trio even have access to a family member’s organic hemp farm in Oregon, which is the Patchogue shop’s hemp supplier.
“You have so many people who are dealing with mental illness, anxiety,” Menkes continued. “There’s addiction, which is a huge problem. And there’s CBD, which is a natural way to help your brain function and calm your body down.”
“It’s not a drug,” she said. “It’s just something from a plant.”
CBD gained quick traction in the medical community after widely circulated studies showed its a effectiveness in treating childhood epilepsy.
That has since helped give the oil legitimacy in the eyes of the public, said Menkes, who before opening the shop in Patchogue had been developing CBD oil scrubs with her sister, Rivelle.
The scrubs help skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, said Menkes, who uses CBD to treat her own skin.
“They now give it to kids in hospitals, which is a huge deal and has been eye opening,” she said. “It’s good for kids, and good for anyone. But people still don’t understand” due to CBD’s relation to medical and recreational cannabis.
That’s where Organically Connected hopes to help in Patchogue.
“Hopefully more people will recognize that CBD is good for them,” she said. “That it’s actually helpful, and not hurtful.”
