A Rockwood School District Employee says she lost her job because the CBD oil she was using made her fail the drug screening test. Lorraine Jeffries, a school bus monitor for the district said her doctor had recommended her to take CBD oil for her joint pains.
Jeffries purchased the CBD oil from the ‚ÄúPure Kana‚ÄĚ CBD online. Her doctor said in a letter, ‚Äúin order to avoid overly toxic prescription medications I often recommend trying CBD oils as an alternative therapeutic measure.‚ÄĚ
The doctor also warned Jeffries that since many CBD oils are unregulated, they might contain some levels of THC chemical which would be sufficient enough to result in a positive drug screen.
Molly Rose at Fox2now describes that Jeffries was shocked at the test as she confessed she had never even smoked marijuana or intended to in future, it was just the CBD oil she was using that caused her to fail the drug test. In a letter issued from the school, it said she is being put on unpaid leave.
KTVI reached out to the school district and received the statement which said that Lorraine Jeffries had joined the Rockwood institution on June 1, 2016 and had resigned from the Rockwood School District in 2019.
Dr. Eric Knost, Rockwood Superintendent further said that as a public school district, they were not in a position to comment on personnel issues. Knost added that it is important to note that during any investigation, it is their Rockwood standard practice to not allow individuals on their school district campuses.
Jeffries had been associated with the district for several years but she said she had been a school bus monitor for more than a decade which breaks her heart now. The CBD oil which was supposed to make her life better has all of a sudden turned it completely upside down leaving the teacher stranded in the middle of nowhere without a job.
According to the federal law that passed the Farm Bill 2018, hemp derived cannabinoid is now a legal drug which was removed from the list of Controlled Substances back in December. However, several states continue to hold strong protest against the newly enacted law and push police officials and security personnel to arrest anyone who is found with CBD oil even with small traces of THC.
The federal law permits a maximum of 0.3% THC, a chemical found in marijuana plants that causes the ‚Äėhigh‚Äô when people smoke weed. However, with the regulatory limited concentration of THC, the government ensures there will be no harmful effects.
CBD is legalized to treat and cure a number of ailments. It’s anti-inflammatory and non-psychoactive nature helps reduce stress, anxiety, depression, pain, inflammation, swelling and many other diseases. It can also be used to treat severe ailments such as Cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s.
Companies and retailers are selling CBD infused products in the marketplace making the best out of the hottest ingredient in the market currently. Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration still prohibits use of CBD oil in any form of foods and drinks, restaurants and cafes are anyway proceeding with their special menus that consist CBD infused burgers, coffee, smoothies, drinks and what not.
The agency has announced a public meeting on May 31 to discuss the regulatory framework for use of cannabinoid and its products. Stakeholders will take part in it and talk about how the newly legalized compound can be incorporated in the current market to elicit the best results without any potential harm or threats.
Despite the meeting, Scott Gottlieb, Commissioner FDA says that it could take up to several years till the FDA completely legalized CBD to be infused in food and drinks.
Jeffries used CBD oil to treat her joints. Since many states are not allowing their citizens to use any form of cannabinoid that contains even the smallest traces of THC, it has become difficult for patients to get access to CBD for their medical conditions.
On the other hand where states have legalized CBD oil, people are rejoicing in the newly launched medicinal drug that helps them with their ailments on a day to day basis. With this bold line between the federal law that allows CBD oil with THC and individual states prohibiting CBD oil with any amount of THC, people are confused whether it is safe to buy and use CBD oil or not.
