Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is one of the many compounds found in marijuana that has health benefits to include aiding those struggling with stress and anxiety. CBD oil may help to reduce symptoms, and unlike its medication counterparts, it has little to no side effects. In the United States, CBDÂ pills for anxiety and CBD oils for anxiety and depression are becoming very popular due to its ability to stimulate serotonin receptors.
Research is still being conducted to learn more about the compound but it is showing to be a very promising relief for those who have silently struggled with their mental health. Â The future of CBD remains a mystery since studies are still in their early phases. As more long term studies are completed, a clearer picture will develop and allow for more accuracy in evaluating benefits and risks.
CBD oil is edible and is commonly used in cooking. Â It can also be taken as a supplement with drops. Though some may say that inhaling it will have the same benefits, there are no studies and no base evidence that show smoking CBD has any benefits.
When broken down, marijuana has many compounds that contribute to its overall effect, though two are well known and contribute vastly to the plant’s effects.  Cannabidiol, known as CBD, and tetrahydrocannabinol, known as THC. The THC in marijuana is what produces “high” associated with marijuana. CBD is what carries the more health beneficial effects that can be used in salves and supplements.  CBD oil has been increasing in popularity since it’s health benefits have been coming more to light, and for good reason.
Though only 9 states have legalized recreational marijuana, 23 states allow marijuana to be legalized for medical use. Â Laws that allow CBD to treat anxiety specifically, vary and it is always best to check for the local state laws.
There are those who will use CBD oil in salves to apply to arthritic joints to alleviate pain. Â Others will use it in a spray for their animals to calm them in overwhelming situations. CBD oil has commonly been used to help alleviate cancer-related issues, including nausea and loss of appetite. Â Research has shown that CBD can be used for many different ailments and provides a more natural solution.
Completed studies have been able to point to how CBD oil could be used for several disorders. Â The National Institute on Drug Abuse conducted a study that showed the test subjects showed a significantly reduce on behavioral signs of anxiety, as well as physical symptoms like increased heart rate improvement.
Other studies have shown that CBD oil can potentially be used in the treatment of PTSD, which is a form of anxiety disorder triggered by reminders of a traumatic event.
The Journal of Psychopharmacology published a study that tested the effects of CBD work on patients who had symptoms of severe paranoia, but found that the CBD had no effect on the subjects’ heart rate, blood pressure or anxiety levels.
Stress is how the body handles harmful or risky situations, whether it is really a threat or not.  When the body feels stressed, the brain will go through the “fight-or-flight” response, which includes a chemical reaction in the brain to prepare a person for what they will need to do next.
Physical symptoms of stress can include headaches, nervousness, aches, pains, and tense muscles.  Chronic stress (when the body continuously feels stress over a long period of time) can cause harm to mental health problems like depression or anxiety, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and sexual dysfunction. Along with medical marijuana, this cannabis plant extract is helping many lives worldwide. Â
Anxiety has many forms, including social anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorders. Â A 2015 analysis conducted that included prior studies came to the conclusion of CBD showing as a very promising treatment for many anxieties and stress disorders.
CBD oil is thought to affect receptors in the brain that can receive serotonin, which is a primary chemical in the body that can cause depression and anxiety when levels are low. Â Typical drugs used to treat these issues have many negative side effects and can lead to addictive substance abuse. Human and animal studies have shown that CBD may reduce anxiety and depression.
Research completed on the use of cannabis has shown that smoking may have a negative effect on health. Â CBD, however, has very few side effects. When compared to other medications taken for stress and anti-anxiety, CBD may be a better option for someone who is struggling with the side effects of prescription medications. Â These side effects may include:
A person should continue with their regular medications unless otherwise directed by a medical professional. Â Since CBD is not regulated, dosages have not been determined for what is needed for types of stress and anxiety, which means the user should start off low and gauge the levels that work best for them. Â There are possible interactions with medications and CBD oil, so it is always best practice to talk with a doctor prior to use.
CBD oil can seem like a miracle too good to be true. Â Research is looking to be promising for something that can help many people with their stress and anxiety but the topic is still quite controversial. Â While research continues and legality adjusts, the best practice is to talk with your medical doctor before making any decisions to change from your medications. Â As always, review your current state laws to ensure no laws are being broken.
