Have you explored the 2020 Farm Show yet this year?
I mean, have you really, truly explored it?
It’s a lot to ask – the Farm Show Complex is a big facility, and events are constantly happening at the various arenas throughout the building. By the time you’ve milled through the crowds to see the Calving Corner or the Sheep to Shawl contest, you might be ready to just sit and enjoy a whoopie pie.
But for those who are willing to go off the beaten path a bit, there are things to discover that you might not have expected. We all know that you can find everything from milk shakes to peacock feathers at the Farm Show. You might be surprised about just how many interesting or unusual objects you’ll come across.
Here are just a few items that we wouldn’t have expected to see at the 2020 Farm Show, or were just interesting enough to deserve a special note:
Embroidery of your own photographs
If you’ve ever wanted a more tactile version of a photo you’ve taken, you can have that done.
A robot that mows lawns
It’s like a Roomba for your yard! But I’ll be honest: I feel like putting blades and wheels on robots is just the first step towards them taking over.
Miss Molly Mold Spore
This charming young lady is a harrowing reminder to have your basements properly sealed.
A running stream
Maybe I’m easily impressed, but I think it’s cool that a landscaping company can demonstrate a stream indoors.
A glass window being hit by a baseball traveling at 55 miles per hour
So far, the answer for “will it break?” is a resounding no, but you are invited to try it out yourself.
One fluffy boi
This Bergamasco is one of several dogs that wants you to make sure to register your dogs.
A virtual simulation of operating an excavator
Kinsley Construction in York is hiring. If you want to see if this gig is for you, give it a shot here!
Hemp kitty litter
Hemp is having a big year. Hemp tea at the Farm Show is one thing, but once you’ve made it into cat products, you know you’re a success.
Anti-Donald Trump t-shirts
It’s not terribly surprising to find plenty of pro-Trump products at numerous vendors throughout the building. But at least one vendor is willing to take shots at both sides of the political aisle.
Vegan faux-leather goods
Leather goods at the Farm Show aren’t surprising. But vegan alternatives are worth noting, especially since a portion of the proceeds go toward animal rescues.
To help combat the opioid epidemic, free doses of the life-saving medicine to counteract overdoses are being given out for free. Read more about it here.
After walking around the building for a few hours, I get it. I could go for a nap myself.
Headshots for a modeling agency
From acting to agriculture, this Farm Show truly has it all.
I love the idea of walking back to one of the Farm Show shuttles carrying a tree.
We’re well into January at this point, but it’s never too late to appreciate everyone’s favorite evergreens.
Move over, maple syrup. It’s hickory’s time to shine! (There is also plenty of maple syrup.)
CBD-enfused emu oil
I’m going to be honest: I didn’t know what emu oil was before today. But now you can apparently infuse it with CBD oil. As someone who types for a living, I look forward to soothing my future arthritis with this.
A butter sculpture of Gritty
I know, we’ve already covered this last week when the sculpture was first revealed. It’s still pretty weird.
A 1,290 pound pumpkin
Someone please tell Charlie Brown ASAP.
