The Eos Scientific commissioned a research across a sample of more than 2000 people in the United Kingdom exploring the growing inclination towards health-conscious millennials seeking cannabidiol over medical prescriptions for mental health.

Marijuana has always been in the limelight, from a time when the drug was linked to stoner activities, a compound found in hemp, a marijuana genus plant has proven to be effective and allegedly healthy for treating a number of ailments.

Popularly known as CBD, cannabinoid is an anti-inflammatory and non-psychoactive compound which can help relieve stress, anxiety, pain, inflammation, swelling and also help with treating other ailments like Alzheimer’s.

The proportion of NHS A&E patients has seen to be fallen down dramatically within four hours, leaving many people in need of immediate care waiting for longer period of time to be seen. The NHS is providing additional funding to amp up the treatment services for the rising number of people seeking support for mental health.

The research concluded the following:

  • 30% of the Brits, which represents almost 15 million of the population (47% of them are aged between 18-34) are wary of approaching a medical examiner or doctor regarding their mental health as they don‚Äôt want to follow a stringent medication which might be too severe for their symptoms.
  • 24% of the Brits, roughly 11.3 million people (35% of them are aged between 18-34), choose to handle their mental health with holistic remedies.
  • 38% of the Brits, which comes up to almost 17.5 million UK adults (50% of them are aged between 18-34), would prefer using cannabinoid oil to treat and balance their mental health than choosing conventional medications.

Eos Scientific’s research revealed that 15 million Brits are concerned about the medication prescribed by doctors as they are worried that either the medication may be too strong or have negative side effects or will be far too general for their particular symptoms.

Millennials would prefer CBD oil which claims health benefits, especially in relieving mental stress and controlling anxiety. Simon Manthorpe, CEO of Eos Scientific comments,

‚ÄúCBD works by affecting the endocannabinoid system and, while further research is still ongoing into the long-term benefits of using CBD to treat anxiety,¬†initial studies suggest that CBD oil has anti-anxiety¬†and antidepressant effects.‚ÄĚ

She also said that the number of patients in UK using CBD oil almost doubled as compared to last year, with many claiming that the oil has proven to a be a much natural and easy way to manage their mental health and create a perfect balance.

The CEO further adds that it is not just mental health that people are seeking alternative treatments for but a wide variety of other ailments such as Alzheimer’s and Cancer. The UK government is yet to fully legalize cannabis for medicinal and recreational uses. Till then the consumers still hide away from accepting fully that they have been relying on the drug for their ailments.

However, with the U.S. government legalizing CBD last year in December with the Farm Bill 2018, many other countries plan to remove hemp derived CBD from controlled substance list and label it as a legal drug with low levels of THC.

THC or tetrahydro cannabinoid is a psychoactive component known to interfere with the hormones and nervous system of the body ultimately affecting mental health of the user. It is a psychoactive compound found in the marijuana plant which is responsible for the high that users get while smoking weed.

The federal law in the U.S. strictly prohibits CBD based products with higher concentrations of THC than 0.3%. The FDA will also issue its regulatory policies on the use of CBD oil infused in food and drinks in May to ensure safe and effective use for consumers.
