Amber Ellis, manager of Smokers Host Discount Tobacco, sells CBD products on a regular basis. Ellis, who is a user of CBDoil, frequently has customers who want to try CBD oil as an alternative to prescribed pain medication.
Since cannabidiol (CBD) oil was legalized in Indiana earlier this year, smoke shops across the state have been selling products containing CBD oil, and those in Connersville are no exception.
“There is a high demand for it,” Amber Ellis, manager of Smokers Host Discount Tobacco, 3150 Western Ave., said. “We get a lot of people who want to try it because they don’t want to be on pain medication or don’t want to be on narcotics.”
According to Project CBD, the compound is derived from the cannabis plant with medical benefits for pain, anxiety, seizures, and other conditions. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is also derived from cannabis, CBD is not psychoactive and does not produce a mind-altering high for users.
Ellis, who is a user of CBD oil, says that people buy it in capsules, gummies, syrups, shots, oils, and topical creams from Smokers Host. “A lot of people look on the Internet and do their research before they come in,” she said, “but we try to answer their questions as best as we can as well.”
Annette Baker, manager of Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco, 512 W. 30th St., has many repeat customers buying CBD products from her. Some have told her about their experience with the products.
“I had a guy who only slept two hours every night,” said Baker. “He started using CBD gummies, and now he sleeps five to six hours every night.”
“I would rather take something natural for pain,” said CBD oil user Savannah Marshall, who gets liquid with CBD oil to be taken under the tongue from Low Bob’s. “It’s helped with my back pain. It’s helped with my withdrawal from antidepressants. I don’t struggle with sleep, my anxiety is almost non-existent, and I even have a better attention span.”
Jeff Herbert, supervisor of Miller’s Tobacco Store, 704 N. Eastern Ave., was originally hesitant to sell CBD products at his store.
“The guy who sells it came in and asked if I wanted to sell it,” said Herbert. “I said no. The second time he came in and asked, I said no. The third time, I decided to try it for my arthritis. It’s a miracle drug. Now I use it for myself, and that’s why we carry it for customers.”
According to Herbert, Miller’s has 10 to 20 customers buying CBD products daily, and most of them have become repeat customers.
“Sales are booming.” he said.
