Cannabis-Infused Beauty Products

The beauty industry is all about *buzzy* new ingredients, so the recent boom of cannabis-infused products comes as no surprise. Weed, marijuana, Mary Jane, grass, pot, cannabis—whatever you call it, chances are you’ve never considered it something that should be a part of your skincare routine (until now).

Challenging the notion that cannabis only belongs in a bong, beauty companies have recently started using the plant for its skincare benefits. Here’s the FORA-1-1 on cannabis-infused beauty products.

BENEFITS OF CANNABIS-INFUSED PRODUCTS

Beauty products infused with marijuana can help with a number of health concerns—without the high feeling. Cannabis-infused products won’t get you stoned and can actually help with reducing anxiety and stress, insomnia, soothing muscle and joint pain, and they can even address a variety of skin issues like cold sores and acne to eczema.

So what’s this medicinal herb’s secret? It’s a group of active chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant called cannabinoids that stimulate balance in our bodies. The most common pot byproducts found in beauty products include hemp seed oil, cannabis flower oil, and CBD oil.

HEMP SEED OIL
Hemp seed oil is the most common marijuana derived oil found in beauty products today. With its omega three and six essential fatty acids and its high content of antioxidants, hemp seed oil has ~ultra~ nourishing properties that hydrate the skin, making it a go-to for hand creams, lip balms, and various hair products.

CANNABIS FLOWER OIL
This fragrant, essential oil is often used in candles, scented soaps, and perfumes. But the smell is far from that of Mary J, and instead has a warm, earthy, herbaceous scent to it that can appeal to both men and women. Cannabis flower oil is obtained through the steam distillation of the hemp plant’s flowers and upper leaves, resulting in little to no THC content.

CBD OIL
Considered the most concentrated cannabis oil, CBD oil is said to provide all the benefits of marijuana sans the actual high. Praised by celebrities like Dakota Johnson and Mandy Moore, CBD oil is usually found in moisturizers, serums, and lotions for its ability to reduce chronic inflammation and pain. The oil has also been known to treat problems with acne by curbing the production of sebum that leads to unwanted breakouts.
